X marks the spot at Misano

Excellent weekend for Xaus a good sign for BMW
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jun. 30, 2008
Ruben Xaus and Max Biaggi picked up a surprising one-two finish for the private Sterilgarda Go Eleven Ducati team in the second race of the World Superbike series stop in Misano Adriatico, Italy June 29.

Troy Bayliss came in third for Ducati Xerox to complete an all-Ducati podium for Race Two. Ironically, Xaus first win of the season comes just days after he signed on to race for BMWs new World Superbike team in 2009.

Todays win is special to me: I fought against the rider I have learnt more from, a hardcase as only Troy Bayliss can be, says Xaus. After having come close to the podium several times and got the forth position four times, I wanted the win and I powered to all my determination to get it.

Ruben Xaus (front) leads an all-Ducati train ahead of Troy Bayliss (21) and Max Biaggi (3).

Xaus was also competitive in Race One, holding the lead for the first 14 laps. Xaus battled with Yamaha Motor Italias Troy Corser for most of the race until Alstare Suzukis Max Neukirchner passed them for the lead despite starting the race in the third row. Corser finished half a second behind Neukirchner while Bayliss came in third.

I was patient and just worked my way up through the field and once I was in front, I knew I could win, says Neukirchner, who now sits second in the overall standings, 49 points behind Bayliss.
