Under the control of chief executive officer Stuart Garner, Norton Motorcycles is currently based at the Donington Park circuit in North West Leicestershire, England. After gauging consumer interest in the new Commando 961 SE in the U.K., Norton is looking for dealership and distributing partners outside the U.K.
Norton has scheduled production of 200 special edition Commando 961 SE motorcycles for September, with production of a standard version to follow. Norton is accepting orders for the 961 SE with delivery expected in late 2009 or early 2010.
The Norton Commando 961 SE is powered by a fuel-injected air-cooled 961cc parallel twin engine with a claimed power output of 79 hp at 6,500 rpm and 66.4 ft-lb of torque at 5,200 rpm.
The Commando 961 SE uses 17-inch carbon fiber wheels from BST. Stopping power is provided by Brembo brakes while suspension includes an Ohlins three-way adjustable 43mm front fork and four-way adjustable reservoir-style twin shocks.
The Commando 961 SE will be on display July 23-26 as Donington Park hosts the MotoGP championship.
Norton will also enter two NRV588 rotary race bikes in the Thundersport GP1, which is part of the undercard for the British Grand Prix. The race bike uses a fuel-injected 588cc twin-rotor Wankel engine with a claimed power output of 170 bhp at 11,500 rpm and 80 ft-lb of torque at variable revs.
A street-legal version of the NRV588 is in the works with a limited edition production slated for 2010.
