Norton back in Britain
New model expected summer 2009
The intention is to mass produce a current Norton prototype, known as the 961 Commando SS. The 961 will be the first new Norton model to be launched from the all-new Commando Platform. This model, as well as those intended to follow, will draw inspiration from the past while also building on the Norton legacy for the future.
Garner received a shipment of parts, tooling and a prototype 961 as well as two 852 Commandos after the deal
was completed. His plan is to turn the 961 prototype into a full production specification bike with 50 units completed by the summer of 2009 – a hefty undertaking indeed.
The production 961 will receive fuel injection to improve performance and emissions, Carbon wheels and body parts to save weight, a new kick stand, and an updated suspension from the Ohlins system currently fitted on the bike.
