What a crazy race. Four different riders could take the championship, but Chambon was the favourite. His Suzuki stopped leaving Casoli to bring the Ducati in at least fifth. But the Alpha Tecnik Yamaha squad had other plans. If Kellner won, he'd be champion, but Muggeridge was too strong for him, so he pulled team-mate Teuchert through to second place and the world championship.
