Mladin to retire after 2009 season
The six-time AMA Superbike Champion and all-time series win leader announced his retirement July 31 during the Heartland Park Topeka round of the series, a round Mladin decided not to race in due to safety concerns.
After so many great years of racing in the USA, I will retire from AMA racing at the end of the 2009 racing season in New Jersey, says Mladin. My career has been long and above and beyond my wildest expectations. I won my first national championship on dirt bikes back in 1981 (28 years ago) and have had an amazing career ever since.
Mladin thanked his team, his fans and his family for their support.
Racing for Rockstar Makita Suzuki, Mladin leads the AMA American Superbike championship standings and could have cemented championship number eight had he raced and won in Topeka.
