AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Mark Blackwell has joined Zero Motorcycles’ board of directors, adding another industry veteran to the electric motorcycle maker’s leadership.

The very first 500cc motocross national champion, Blackwell was a motocross racing star in the late ’60s and early ’70s. After retiring from racing, Blackwell held management positions for Suzuki, Husqvarna and Polaris where he served as vice president and general manager of Victory Motorcycles. Blackwell will remain an executive at Polaris Industries while sitting on Zero’s board.

“I am delighted to join the Board of Zero Motorcycles. I have tracked the progress of the company from afar and been impressed with its growing product line and its increasingly well-established brand, channel, and supply chain,” says Blackwell. “I look forward to helping the company grow in the coming years and advising its team of talented, industry-experienced executives.”

Blackwell is the latest industry veteran to join the Zero team. Fellow Hall of Famer Scot Harden is Zero’s vice president of global marketing while former Buell director Abe Askenazi is Zero’s vice president of engineering.

“My colleagues and I have known Mark for a while and we greatly value his industry insight, knowledge of motorcycles, and years of managerial expertise,” says Aflalo Guimaraes, a Zero board member and managing director of its chief investor, The Invus Group, LLC. “We are excited Mark has elected to join the Board of the company and we know his contributions and talents will make an enormous impact on our business moving forward. We look forward to a close and productive relationship with him.”
