Kawasaki offers police-spec Concours 14

First new Kawasaki police bike since 2005

Kawasaki is returning to the law enforcement vehicle market with the Concours 14 ABS Police. Kawasaki has produced four police motorcycles, the Z1-P, the KZ900 Police Special, the KZ1000C Police and most recently, the KZ1000P (the KZ900 and the KZ1000 models were famously featured in the television series CHiPs). After a five-year absence, Kawasaki is back in the police motorcycle market.

The Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS Police motorcycle has a number of features designed to meet the needs of law enforcement agencies. Kawasaki gave the police bike a tighter turning radius and equipped each unit with an adjustable speedometer, a second wiring harness with 12 fused circuits and a separate battery dedicated to electronic add-ons.

Like the standard commercial model, the police-spec Concours is available with traction control and ABS brakes. According to Kawasaki, the Concours 14 ABS Police has the quickest acceleration in the law enforcement class with superior high-speed handling. The Concours 14 uses a 1,352cc engine, claiming 156 hp and 102 ft-lb.

The Concours 14 ABS Police is Kawasaki's first police motorcycle since 2005.

Kawasaki is offering a three-year unlimited mileage factory warranty for the police Concours and will also provide training for law enforcement agencies maintenance personnel.

The Concours 14 ABS Police will retail from $16,000 to $22,000 per unit, depending on the model year and equipment options. According to Kawasaki, the price represents savings of over $2,000 per unit compared to the BMW R1200RT-P or Harley-Davidson FLHTP police motorcycles. Kawasaki also says complete clutch system replacement for the Concours 14 ABS Police, one of the most common maintenance needs for police bikes, will cost $400 less in parts and labor than the competition.

The Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS Police is already being used by police in Boise, Idaho, Mesa, Ariz., and Woodburn, Ore.
