Unveiled at the 2010 EICMA show in Milan, the Aprilia RS4 125 is an evolutionary successor to the RS125 which dominated the 125cc Grand Prix World Championship for years.
The entry level model fits into what Paolo Timoni, president and chief executive officer of Aprilia parent company Piaggio, told Motorcycle.com, manufacturers need to start doing: attract younger people to riding and recruit new riders.
The new RS4 125 uses an all-new liquid cooled four-stroke engine with electronic fuel injection, paired with a six speed transmission.
The chassis was developed from Apriliaís 125cc Grand Prix racing program. The RS4 125 is equipped with a 41mm upside down fork up front while the rear features a monoshock linked to an asymmetric swingarm. The front wheel is equipped with a 300mm steel disc gripped by a four-piston caliper while the rear uses a 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper.
Visually, the RS4 125 inherits some design elements from the Aprilia RSV4, including similar tail fairing and air intakes under the headlights. The fuel tank holds 3.8 gallons including a gallon in reserve.
According to Piaggio Group Americas, the Aprilia RS4 125 will hit the U.S. at the end of 2011, likely as a 2012 model.
