Bridgestone pulls out of AMA SX, MX

51 titles in 18 years won on Bridgestone rubber
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 19, 2009
Bridgestone has decided to stop supplying tires for AMA Supercross and Motocross competition following the end of the 2009 Motocross season.

In making this announcement, we would like to thank the hard working teams, individuals and Bridgestone staff who have contributed to the great success the Bridgestone brand has enjoyed in AMA competition through the years, says Bob Graham, senior manager of motorcycle products for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.

Bridgestone Americas cited the current economic crisis as the reason for the decision.

Bridgestone has supplied tires to riders such as James Stewart (pictured), Chad Reed, Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael.
Even though we are ceasing our involvement for the time being, the Bridgestone brand has left an indelible mark in the world of off-road motorcycle racing, says Graham. All the hard work put into the development and servicing of our tires has left a lasting legacy upon which we can look back with pride.

Bridgestone has supplied tires for the AMA Supercross and Motocross series since 1991, winning 10 Supercross and 20 Supercross Lites titles, as well as 11 Motocross and 10 Motocross Lites championships. Bridgestone sponsors several riders in the 2009 AMA Supercross championship including the two top title contenders Chad Reed and James Stewart.

While we have made this decision somewhat early in the season, rest assured that riders on Bridgestone brand tires can expect the same level of performance and service throughout 2009 to which they have been accustomed, says Graham. We have our sights firmly set on adding to our Supercross and Motocross championship tally this year. By letting our teams know of our exit now, they will have ample time to make necessary arrangements for 2010 and beyond.
