The BMW R1200GS and the FX-28 helmet from AFX were the subject of recall notices filed in August with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

BMW of North America issued a recall on 2006-2008 R1200GS motorcycles. The fuel pump control unit housings of the affected bikes may not have proper sealing. As a result, water can enter the control unit housing, creating a humid atmosphere which may corrode the fuel pump.

The recall affects R1200GS produced between August 2006 and January 2008. BMW has not announced a remedy for the issue yet. It is also unclear whether the R1200GS Adventure is affected. Owners are asked to contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117 for more information.

Helmet manufacturer AFX North America issued a recall on its FX-28 helmet. The recall notice applies to helmets produced in December 2007, sized extra small, small and medium. The affected helmets fail to comply with the penetration test requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218.

An estimated 984 helmets may be affected by the issue. AFX will replace recalled helmets with helmets that do comply with the required safety tests. AFX FX-28 owners are asked to look inside their helmets behind the comfort liner cloth for a label which list the date of production. If the FX-28 helmet is labeled “Production date: 2007/12” and is extra small, small or medium, owners are asked to contact AFX at 1-877-686-6477.
