The American Motorcyclist Association has sanctioned the TTXGPs North American electric racing series.

The TTXGP, which starts its second North American Championship May 14-15 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., has taken another step forward in bringing electric motorcycle racing into the mainstream motorcycle industry after receiving the sanctioning of AMA Racing.

TTXGP is an innovative race series, says Joe Bromley, AMA director of racing. Were eager to work with the organizers and race teams that are leading the development of electric-powered competition motorcycles. The TTXGP North American Championship will showcase technology that will potentially play a significant role in the future of racing.

The AMAs approval opens the door for further sanctioning from other international motorcycle organizations. The AMA is a member federation of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), and is in effect also FIM North America, an FIM continental union.

We feel this is a fantastic step in the acceptance of zero-carbon motorsport, and we recognize the dedication and professionalism of all the participants, tracks and partners that make TTXGP what it is today, says Azhar Hussain, chief executive officer and founder of the TTXGP. We are pleased to be working with FIM North America and its member federation in the United States, the AMA. The AMA is a fantastic partner for the TTXGP. Not only is the AMA a large and respected sanctioning body, but it is also the leader in representing motorcyclists across America. As we ride into the next generation of motorsport, the AMA will prove to be the catalyst for us to properly engage local, state and federal governments, international governing organizations and the court of public opinion.

By receiving the AMAs approval, the TTXGP has also taken another step ahead of the FIMs own e-Power electric racing series. The news of the TTXGP receiving the AMAs blessing comes just as the e-Power series opens its 2011 season at Frances Magny Cours circuit.
