AMA Dragbike Suspended as Promoter Folds
Hammer Motorsports, which ran the AMA Dragbike series, announced June 24 it was shutting down operations. The announcement came at the midway point of the eight-round 2010 season. Hammer Motorsports President Scott Valetti and vice president Brandi Neithamer stated rising costs and decreasing revenue made it fiscally irresponsible to continue doing business.
The principals of Hammer Motorsports are two of the most-dedicated promoters in the racing business, and its unfortunate that todays economic climate has forced them to make this difficult decision, says Joe Bromley, AMA director of racing. Despite this regrettable development, AMA Racing remains committed to the sport of motorcycle drag racing, and it is our goal to work with a new partner to assist with operations and promotion of AMA Dragbike going forward.
Without a promotional partner, the AMA Dragbike National Championship Series will be suspended indefinitely, though AMA Racing will continue to support individual amateur drag racing events.
Valetti and Neithamer, with silent partner Scott McKinney, assumed control of AMA Dragbike in February 2007 after purchasing the rights to the series, then known as AMA Prostar, from Keith Kizer. Valetti and Neithamer completed a buy-out of McKinneys share two months later.
