2009 Vespa S50 arrives

Piaggio claims two-stroke performance on four-stroke engine
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Nov. 20, 2008
Piaggios new 2009 Vespa S50 scooter is now available at American dealerships.

Piaggio claims the S50s newly engineered four-valve powerplant is the most powerful 50cc four-stroke engine on the market. Vespa engineers worked at minimizing weight and maximizing the power curve to produce a four-stroke, four-valve single overhead cam engine that Piaggio says is comparable to two-stroke engines but with the environmental benefits of a four-stroke.

Like its larger sibling, the S150, the S50 draws design cues from the Vespa 50 Special and the Vespa Primavera. The iconic high-strength steel body design provides a rigid frame with a low center of gravity.

Piaggio says the Vespa S50 has the most powerful four-stroke 50cc engine on the market.
Up front, the S50 features an 11-inch wheel with 7.8-inch disc brake with hydraulic linkage and a dual opposed piston hydraulic caliper. A 4.3-inch drum brake with mechanical linkage provides stopping power on the 10-inch rear wheel.

The 2009 Vespa S50 is available in Dragon Red, Montebianco White, Shiny Black and Taomina Orange at a retail price of $3,199.
