Two days ago, the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons in a remarkable come-from-behind, overtime victory in Super Bowl 51. In honor of America’s biggest sporting event, we bring you a different kind of football: Motorcycle Football. In this surprisingly high-quality footage from 1959, we get the basics of “Motorball” explained to us while witnessing some dramatic competition at the same time. Considering all the extreme sports that are around these days involving a motorcycle, quite frankly, we’re surprised this hasn’t been resurrected. Who wants to be the one to change that?

Check out the action below.

So all we need is ten Groms or similar type bikes? Hmm, how long would it take to scare up a bunch of used TTR’s and CRF’s on Craigslist?

    Hayabusa needed for penalty kicks.

We used to play a game we called ‘Mountain Bike Polo’ where you would use a croquet mallet to advance a soccer or volleyball while riding a mountain bike, and braking using only the front brake (if you were right handed the mallet would be in right hand — front brake is on opposite side to a motorcycle, that is it’s on the left on bicycle). A lot of people would go over the handlebars from braking too hard. Worst injury I ever got was a blast to the eye socket from a mallet backswing. Still have some bone chips around my eye socket to prove it. The game became noticeably more violent when some Canadians, most of them ex-hockey players, started playing with us. Great guys though. Ah, to be young and dumb again!

No, motorcycle soccer does not need to be a thing again . . . at least until universal health care comes to the USA.
