Ducati revealed a new, more adventure-ready version of the Multistrada, dubbed the Multistrada 1200 Enduro. Unveiled at EICMA, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro is designed to handle off-road terrain more rugged than the odd fire road, putting it up against the likes of the KTM 1290 Super Adventure and BMW R1200GS Adventure.

The Multi Enduro comes equipped with tubeless wire spoke wheels, a tall 19-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the back, to make it more off-road capable than the regular Multistrada. Also helping is the fully adjustable electronic semi-active Sachs suspension system which offers 200 mm of travel, front and back, or 30mm longer than the non-Enduro Multis. The 7.9-gallon fuel tank is also 50% larger than the tanks on the other Multistradas, enough to offer a (claimed) range of 280 miles.

The engine remains the same 1198.4cc V-Twin with Ducati’s Desmodromic Variable Timing system powering the rest of the Multistrada family. Ducati claims a peak output of 160 hp at 9500 rpm and 110.3 lb-ft. at 7500 rpm. The Enduro adds an aluminum sump guard to shield the engine from debris. Like the rest of the Multistrada line, the Enduro comes with four power modes: Enduro, Sport, Touring and Urban.

Ducati loaded the Multistrada Enduro with more electronics, including Bluetooth connectivity, traction control, wheelie control, cornering ABS (switchable), and the aforementioned Ducati Skyhook semi-active suspension. New is Vehicle Hold Control, Ducati’s take on hill start control, which won our 2014 Best Technology MOBO award when it was introduced on the BMW R1200RT and K1600GTL Exclusive. Ducati VHC holds the Multistrada steady with the rear brake, modulating the brake pressure and leaving the rider to worry about throttle and clutch control. The system is activated when the bike is parked and the kickstand is up by applying high pressure to both front and brake levers.

Ergonomically, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro offers higher handlebars and the seat is narrower in the crotch area to improve off-road handling. The footpegs are steel and come with removable rubber covers. The rear brake lever is height-adjustable while the gear shift lever has a specially-designed coupling to better protect it from damage.

The Enduro comes standard with a 34.2-inch seat height but Ducati will offer both a higher 35-inch seat and a lower 33.5-inch seat as options. Ducati will also offer an optional narrower passenger seat which allows the rider to move back easier when standing on the pegs.

The windscreen is adjustable with just one hand, with 2.4 inches of travel. Ducati will also offer an optional plexiglass screen ergonically-designed for on-the-pegs riding.

Taking a page from BMW, Ducati will offer the Multistrada 1200 Enduro with four packages:

  • Touring Pack: Heated grips, Touratech aluminum panniers and handlebar bag.
  • Sport Pack: Termignoni exhaust (EU), billet aluminum water pump cover, billet aluminum front brake and clutch fluid reservoir plugs.
  • Urban Pack: Aluminum top case, tank bag with tank lock, USB port.
  • Enduro Pack: Supplementary LED lighting, and engine bars, radiator guards, oil radiator guard, sprocket cover and rear brake guard from Touratech.

Other features include full LED headlight, cornering lights, center stand, a 5” color TFT display, Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires and yes, a longer front beak.
