Indian Puts the Brakes on Relaunch
Indian puts the brakes on relaunch
Those anxious for the release of the new Indian Chief are going to have to wait a little longer than expected.
Indian Motorcycle Co. was planning to introduce its new bikes by the end of 2007, but has pushed the release back to mid-2008.
We have discovered we need more time to deliver a product that will meet our expectations and yours, the company said in a release. Our timing is based on manufacturing a premium quality product. Only when this goal is accomplished will we introduce Indian back into the marketplace.
Indian hasnt produced a motorcycle since the 2003 model year and the brand has struggled since the 1950s. Following the end of World War II, Indian suffered a decline in sales and stopped production in 1953.
The iconic motorcycle brand made a brief return to manufacturing in 1999, but that run proved unsuccessful.
In 2006 Indian Motorcycle officially relaunched again when it selected a new factory site and world headquarters in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. In September of 2006, Indian secured $30 million to fund the company for a two-year period.
