Great bike.
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 05, 2012Bought this bike after 15 yr. hiatus on street bikes, new off showroom floor. The bike does a great job but I should have purchased a larger bike,( my fault, not gs500f). I am 6'2", 245 lbs. Ride my wife 2 up and took several trips over 300 miles! This bike exceeds expectations.

Great Bike!
By (I am an Owner) on Mar 05, 2012I have owned my 2009 GS500F since March of 2011. I have really enjoyed this bike. I am a bigger guy 235 lbs and wasn't sure a ninja 250 would get me there. I did some research and this bike caught my eye. It will easily take me to 80mph +. The other factor was by far the price. When I bought ... it Suzuki had a promotion on the GS500F of $1000 off and 1.9% financing up to 60 months, so I drove off the lot for just under $4000. Not bad for a brand new bike that gets 45+ mpg (depending on rider weight).
On another note the insurance for this bike is very reasonable, I have full coverage with roadside assistance and diminishing deductible from progressive and pay $396 per YEAR. (I'm 32). After the first year without any claims it went down to $353. Not too shabby.

Humble Beginnings - Great Times Ahead
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 03, 2012I got my license in November 2010 and I bought my 2009 GS5F in December 2010. I almost have 10K miles on it. I ride it to and from work whenever the sun's out. It looks sporty and easily keeps pace with anything on the freeway. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that it doesn't have EFI, so ... you'll have to spend a few minutes warming the engine (not a problem if you're comfortable adjusting the choke while you ride). I had a leaky gasket issue, but the factory warranty covered it. It handles great and the riding position is comfortable for my 45+ old bones.

Just What You Need?
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 06, 2011The bike is just what you need and nothing more. Enough power and speed to challenge your everday highway needs and to tickle your fun factor. The bike is light with a pretty low seat height for a beginner. The 5.3 gallons allows you to go for weeks on a tank. I average in the city about 200 miles ... before reserve and have max at 57 mpg on the highway at 80 mph. The more upright seat position than a typical crotch rocket makes distance riding rather comfortable. Approaching 3000 miles I have had no problems to date (knock on wood). Maintance is pretty easy. I only have trouble cleaning the air filter because of its' location. Bike is good for someone wanting to ride or need a ease on gas card.

Great starter bike. Excellent fuel economy.
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 14, 2011This is my first bike. I love it. It is easy to handle. Everything I would need to commute to work and save gas $$$. If you are a beginner then look no further than the Suzuki GS500F. You will have plenty of power and excellent handling. I am a tall big guy 6' and 250 lbs. Fits me just fine. ... I picked this one up at a local dealership brand new at a closeout price of $2995 with zero miles on it.

Great Starter Bike
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 14, 2011My first bike very pleased with it. bought the new 09 for $4900 otd. already have over 2000 miles average 50MPG. true does not have lot of power but more than enough for people who learning to ride. not too many accessories available either, but ride is very comfortable below 95 MPH. it is bit heavy ... but i love it. ninja 500 looks from stone age and 250 ninja looks nice but you will get bored very soon + it has only 30 HP wont go over 70MPH well at least safely. yes gs500 is not fuel injected so you have to use choke every time you start but it is not that bad. so far no problems will recommend to all new riders or people who wont to save money on gas.

Very Happy So Far
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 11, 2011I got my bike in mid December and due to the worst winter weather in decades, I've only been able to put 300 miles on it so far. This is a very good looking, comfortable, sweet handling bike that can be had for a very low price. Is it slow by current sportbike standards? Sure, but it will still ... blow the doors off most cars. If you want a bike that will outrun a Ferrari look elsewhere. If you want a fun, practical bike for a good price look no further.

Excellent Choice for an upgrade...
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 19, 2011I started on a ninja 250. Loved everything about it. The looks, the ride and the fuel economy. When I looked around for an upgrade I found only two to compare; the Kawi 500 and the Suzuki 500. i rode both. The Kawi is narrower and lighter with a lot of pep but the Suzuki...well is is a little heavier ... thank the kawi but it has more pep. The ride is VERY comfortable. The look of the bike is more substantial...prolly because of the fairings but it makes a difference. The gas mileage is excellent and the look if very sporty. Priced at $4300 new there was no way I could pass it up. I am glad I didn't...I LOVE this bike!

Fun, Great looking Bike
By (I am an Owner) on May 26, 2010I was torn between the Ninja 500 and the GS500. Both are comparable but I preferred the white/blue style of the GS500. Rides great and is easy to handle. I exercised it on one of the MSF training areas to see how it handled in a safe, closed off area. It handles tight S turns and tight U turns with ... no problems. Inconvenient helmet holder accessed by lifting seat, so buy one that attaches to the license plate. Other than that, it is great. While it has a bit of the crotch rocket look, it rides more line a standard or dual purpose bike. That makes it comfortable for commuting around the city. At the dealer, I did find it more comfortable than the Ninja 250 or 500.

2009 GS 500F
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 04, 2009This is a great bike. It is a very comfortable bike for everyday use. It is not a supersport powerhouse of a machine that some of the larger more expensive bikes are but it is more than anyone would ever "need" for a street bike. During break-in I averaged about 55 mpg and expect even better because ... that included alot of "playing around" and is not a true represintation of everyday use. One negative I have is the slope of the seat. Friends of mine and myself tend to ride "on the tank" and every passenger I have taken along has a hard time sitting on the passenger part of the seat because they slide forward. Passenger foot pegs are better placed than most other sportbikes. I would rate driver comfort great, passenger comfort good. I have also had a hard time finding aftermarket parts on the market compared to other bikes so if you like to "trick out" your bike you may want to take that into consideration.
