09 Nightster: forward controls, mini apes, V&H short shots, Stage 1
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 04, 2022I had the Vance and Hines Short Shots exhaust, mini apes, forward controls and Screaming Eagle Stage 1 kit put on when I bought the bike when brand new.
Later I added the Sundowner seat.
Rode the bike in 2010 from my home in Pacific, MO out Old Rte 66.
Comfortable, sporty and ... loud!
A lot more get up and go than my first bike, an 06 Sportster 883 base model.

no room for tire biters.
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 03, 2011I bought the bike 3 weeks ago and love everything about it. i have a 2008 honda cbr and 1993 kawasaki vulcan 1500 and this is a way rougher ride than either of them. It's how i like my women, and how i like my bikes. People comment on it everywhere i go. the classic orange and black is stunning and ... everyone thinks its an old bobber.

The best Harley I've owned yet - but not perfect
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 16, 2009This is the 3rd Harley I've owned and it is by far my favorite yet. After tons of mechanical and electrical problems with my 2007 VRSCD Night Rod I traded it in on a 2009 Nightster. I've been saying for years, since the Nightster rolled out mid-year in 07, that it was the best looking Harley in the ... line and my 2-tone silver/black Nightster holds true to this. I'm only 5'11" and ~170-180 lbs so this bike fits me perfectly. Even without a windshield I could ride this bike for hours. But, with the small peanut tank, rides are limited to about ~100 miles at a time which isn't too bad. The ride can be pretty awful at times - when the shortened rear shocks hit a substantial bump you'll feel a pretty good jar to your spine. It sometimes almost feels like a rigid frame. But otherwise the ride is great. Ground clearance is not an issue at all either straight up or in a turn but you will find that the short height mixed with the sportys turning ability that peg scraping will be easy. Overall I absolutely adore this bike. Where else are you going to buy, for all intensive purposes, a $10,000 chopper? With a set of V&H pipes and a stage 1 upgrade or a heavy breather intake, looks and performance will dramatically improve above the high mark they're already at.

DFOWLER023
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 02, 2009i purchased my nightster at the beginning of this season, I owned a crotch rocket prior, i must say the power of the nightster with a few mods is incredible. i would bet money on the nightster vs a 900 croth rocket any day in the 1/4 mile.. its a bit hard over bumps, but you can soften the ride ... by adjusting the rear springs a little, as i did... i added a badlander double seat, detach sissy low sissy bar, #1 black HD derby cover, vance & hines black staggered short shots, diamond black collection grips, pegs and fuel cap. blue pod lights, blacked out turn signal lenses, black air filter cover, sreaming eagle air filter kit and of coarse the HD SE race tuner PRO... with thses mods, my bike is a dream, everyone who sees it comments on it.. i will ride this bike for a long time without having bike envy of anyone else, its perfect.... i highly recommend it for any rider... over all just a bad ass bike!

SMOOTH & FAST !!
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 24, 2009With forward controls, Vance & Hines "Straight Shots" (Super Sound..DEEP!) & ForceWinder. Performance is Great as well as handling. You will be stopped every time you gas up with an assortment of questions.... is it new / old ect.... Super smooth @ 70 MPH highway, and it will climb easily 100+. ... Seat SUCKS!

Can we say 800 miles in 36 hours?
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 23, 2009Awesome retro look, loves the curves but will throw you on a bump. Who ever designed the seat was missing in action.
Love it all the same. Added two finger clutch. Clean lines keep me from purchasing saddlebags.

I love my Nightster
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 28, 2009Coming from riding an 883L, the Nightster is an incredible upgrade...I had to replace the stock shocks on my 883 to dump some of the bumps but the stock Nightster shocks are a definite upgrade (the seat is better too). I have also added a heavy breather and Stage 1 + tuner - she's a pocket rocket. ...
I am debating on getting a reach solo seat for a little extra comfort on highway stretches but other than that this is my dream bike - orange and black and with the S&S pipes she is like a mean, loud wasp.
Can't think of anywhere I'd rather be, all day all night than on the Nightster.

I love my bike...
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 27, 2009Hi all. I collected my bike on Saturday, the only thing is can I soften the ride a little? I don't want an armchair, but some of the roads in the UK are very poor.

Awesome Starter Bike!!!
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 24, 2009Bought this bike yesterday and have enjoyed racking up the miles, 200+ so far. I found other owners reviews helpful so wanted to add my own. Common complaints about this bike are the seat, suspension, and I ran across a few about touchy throttle. The seat in my opinion is fair, by all means seat ... comfort did not shorten any of my rides. The suspension? You will feel the road! I only bottomed out once so far for a spine adjustment, but you will feel the manhole covers, potholes etc. I learned fast to raise up off the seat if a major bump is anticipated. Lastly a touchy throttle is nonsense. Riders just need to be comfortable with the throttle back in all gears. After throwing it back in every gear I feel comfortable with how the bike will respond, and am not concerned with it getting away from me.

Bliss
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 19, 2009Put my first 1000 miles on my Nightster in the blink of an eye! 100 degrees in Texas and black on black is perfect at 70 mph. It's the old school look I want but with the modern tech of the 21st century. Great job HD!

Great Bike
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 17, 2009I just love my 2009 Nighster! Great bike, comfortable and well balanced.
As a small woman (4'11") this bike gives me the control and comfort I need as well as the security of size for the road.

First bike and loving it!
By (I am an Owner) on Jun 25, 2009I purchased my 08 Nightster about 8 months ago after completing my local motorcycle safety course and I absolutely dig it. Admittedly I am a novice in regards to bikes, but as far as a stock bike goes, this one is great. There are only 2 gripes that I have about this bike:
1 - the ... mid controls - to start off I liked the mid controls because they gave me increased confidence and allowed me to "master" the bike quicker. I am 6 foot and just added on forward controls and it makes the bike A LOT more comfortable.
2 - The seat - the brawler seat is not comfortable at all. I can stand it for about an hour before riding would become annoying. Needless to say a new seat is my next upgrade.

1200 Nightster Not Just a City Bike
By (I am an Owner) on May 19, 2009One thing I have read again and again about the Harley Sportster is how much it vibrates at speeds above 60 mph, however, the 2009 Nightster rides as smooth as velvet at 70 and 80 mph. With a windshield, it is perfect for freeway riding. With forward controls and a sissy bar, it would be a perfect ... sport touring bike. Definitely no need to trade up!

WOW! What a nice bike!
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 15, 2009I just bought a 2009 Nightster in vivid black. This is the first bike I've ever owed or ridden for that matter. After an hour in a large parking lot I was out on the road. Despite the big V twin, the light weight makes it great for a novice rider and it seems plenty quick even accelerating from ... speed when I foolishly took it out on a country highway to "ride it like I stole it!"
The only complaint is the low back end on crappy local streets makes for some bone rattle. Easily solved with 1.5" of rear height but forget it!
I saw this bike and immediately fell in love. Parked on street people walking by actually stop or turn around to look at it. I've already gotten 3 "Nice bike!!!" comment at lights in two days....
If you want a bike that looks like Steve McQueen or James Dean would ride this is the bike for you. Everyone here LOVES it and I'm in Kenosha, WI where Harleys are a dime a dozen and rice rockets get laughed off as kid toys...

Nightster - Ready to Roll
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 31, 2008The Nightster takes the sportster models to a whole new level. With the excellant perfomance exspected from the sportster class the styling and looks of the Nightster change every thing. It's fast and nimble , the seat could use alittle more padding but if i wanted a cadillac thats what i would have ... bought. It gets more attention in public than any other bike i've owned and more attention than the other Harleys my friends ride. Mini Apes , Forward Controls and Vance&Hines SideShots, make the look abit more old school, I recomend anyone interested in a Harley check out the Nightster.

I love my harley
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 09, 2008This is a wonderful bike. If you're bothered by straight-line speed and acceleration, grow up, or go to a race track. Everything about this bike screams 'chill out', you just cruise along surrounded by the most blissful engine notes without a care in the world. I've been riding the thing through ... all kinds of weather as a commuter machine in Britain, which I think speaks volumes about its reliability. You cant park it without someone complimenting your taste and with its handling around corners and across-the-board grunt, its just a pleasure to ride.
