Very happy with my Monster!
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 01, 2010I purchased my 2008 S4Rs Tricolore last August with 301 miles showing on the odometer. Since then, I'v added 4400 miles and so far, I'm very happy with it.
It took a while to get used to the mechanical clatter of the Ducati engine after so many Japanese bikes, with their sewing machine-smooth ... engines. However, this only adds to the bike's "personality" for me. I've often told friends that this bike "talks" to me in ways the other bikes couldn't.
This Monster S4Rs handles better than any other bike I've owned or ridden in my 30+ years of riding. It has excellent in-town manners with more than enough torque and acceleration to keep me grinning. The short "lock-to-lock" steering can make you feel like you're attempting to turn a large truck at times; requiring you to make several cuts to turn in some yards and lots. However, once I was used to it, it became less of and issue and required fewer cuts to get turned around.
Riding comfort can best be described as "sport-firm" and is capable of chattering your teeth over rough sections of pavement. Adversely, it comes into it's own when the road conditions improve.
This bike is equally at home on back-road twisties or highway riding, but after experiencing your favourite back roads on it, you'll find yourself looking for alternate routes to get to your destination instead of using the highways.
The small fuel capacity limits range to roughly 160 miles before the fuel light comes on. Thankfully, Ducati gave it a generous fuel reserve (0.8 gal)remaining in the tank to get you to the next gas station.
I'm definitely hooked on this bike and I know now that my next bike will also be a Ducati. I'm just not in any hurry to get rid of this one yet!
