Great scooter, yet underpowered uphills
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 04, 2020This scooter is easy to control on corners and on uneven surfaces because of the larger wheels.
I took it in the mountains and it was a total disaster climbing hills. It barely hit 40mph uphill. My other 250 piaggio would blow this thing off the road by miles. That said, keep it in ... town on even ground and its awesome to do shopping and chores on. Or just check out the city sites.
This engine is made very well though. I put it through so much resistance climbing the mountains and it didn't stall or overheat or blow up. I thought I'd never get home. But the engine took a beating that day and still works. It's really slow by my standards especially off the line. You have to open the throttle a huge amount just to get moving forward.
The suspension is soft yet firm enough so I really like the comfort. However the leg room is too small and makes my knees ache and I'm only 5'-6" tall.
It's a beautiful looking scooter very nice lines and seat is super comfortable. Tires and mags are amazing and grip corners well.
Feels very plastic in handlebar area but so do all my other scooters as well.
Only problem with mine is the rear wheel has play side to side and back and forth, just a tiny bit but noticeably worrisome. I don't know if it's normal but going to have a shop look at it.
You can probably work on it by yourself looks fairly simple design.
No luggage to carry anything is my biggest gripe.
Overall 3.5 out of 5 stars

Great Scoot
By (I am an Enthusiast) on Jun 12, 2012I have had the scooter for 2years now and it runs like a clock.
The only problem is overfilling the gas tank causing the Carbon Canister to flood. This will cause stalling and poor operation. Never overfill the tank.
Other problem concerns the vacuum lines which are of poor quality. ... I replaced mine and never had another problem.
Handling, feel, top speed, and looks are above the rest of the group.
Only thing I may do is buy the Sportcity 250 one day.

Perfect size for the city
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 11, 2011I own this scooter. It has a high tech engine with a 12:1 compression ratio and requires 92 octane (US ratings). Since there is no 92, you should use 93. The good news is it still gets excellent mileage (80 mpg) and blows away other 4 stroke 125s. Acceleration puts you out in front of most traffic ... and the top speed is 62 mph on level ground. It works everywhere except the interstate. The price is excellent. I paid $2100 for a new 2009 OUT THE DOOR which is more than a thousand lower than the cost of a Vino 125 for example. Seat ht. is a little high for shorter people and a kick start and kick stand would be nice. Also it would be nice to have a clicking sound to remind you the turn signal is on. I have had no reliability problems. Easy maintenance too.

Lemon Warning
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 11, 2010Pros: Big tyres, big brakes, feels light and stable
Cons: Just fits a 6 foot tall rider, Questionable reliability
I purchased this bike for a small commuter however I have had nothing but trouble from day one. I have had the bike for 2 months and have been back to the ... dealer 5 times for the same issue. The problems include:
1. A fuel gauge that shows the tank to be completely empty at 4 litres, leaving 3.5 litres of fuel left (6 litre tank with a 1.5 litre reserve making it a 7.5 litres)
2. A major loss in power resulting in Wide Open Throttle (WOT) to achieve a maximum of 65km/h up a slight incline.
3. Once warm the bike will misfire from a standstill (so severely it will not move), on exiting corners, and under load - up a hill, WOT.
4.It stalls at sets of lights all the time. Also it has stalled when braking and in mid corner. I am just lucky no-one has been behind me when this has happened.
Overall Opinion DEATH TRAP!

Very good balance
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 20, 2009The Aprilia Sportcity 125 is light enough to be very manageable in traffic and powerful enough to be a lot of fun at relatively low speeds (top speed around 60 mph). Solid and reassuring to ride, predictable handling (thanks to the biggish wheels and tires) and good fit and finish. If you need to ... go on the highway, get something with more high-end hp, but this is great for commuting or just for fun. I spend about two hours a day on mine commuting and have had no mechanical problems or issues whatsoever.
