Suzuki Tests Electric Scooter Prototype
The e-Let electric scooter prototype is taking to the streets of Suzuki’s home city, Hamamatsu, Japan, to produce data for development of a production model. The e-Let is Suzuki’s contribution to the Hamamatsu Social Experiment Project on Next-Generation Eco-Cars, which also involves other companies as well as educational institutions and the local government.
The Suzuki e-Let is based on the Let’s4 Basket, a 49cc gasoline-powered scooter marketed as an ideal vehicle for short trips to the grocery store. The e-Let is uses an AC synchronous hub motor powered by a lithium-ion battery produced by electronics company Sanyo. According to Suzuki, e-Let has a range of about 18.6 miles, assuming a speed of 18.6 mph on a level surface, while the battery can be charged in four hours through a 100V outlet.
