Daimler to introduce electric scooter
Smart scooter may be unveiled at Paris Motor Show
According to a report in British website Autocar, the German manufacturer will unveil a new electric scooter under the company’s Smart brand.
The Daimler Corporation, which owns Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart, recently entered a partnership with energy supplier EnBW to establish charging stations in Stuttgart, Germany, providing an infrastructure for electric vehicles. The project was originally slated to support 200 Smart and Mercedes-Benz cars, but Autocar reports the project will also support 500 electric scooters, with field testing of the new Smart scooters to begin within the next year.

“Smart was originally established to tackle the need for improved mobility, especially in congested city environments. Up to now we have concentrated our efforts on four-wheel solutions. The next stage is to looking at how to expand beyond this with other environmentally friendly vehicles,” a senior Mercedes-Benz official tells Autocar.
Yamaha has also announced a new electric scooter, the EC-03, with sales expected to begin in September in Japan. Meanwhile, Honda will offer the business-use EV-neo in December.
