By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Sep. 04, 2008
A team of riders from tire manufacturer Pirelli are making a 6,000-mile journey across North America.

Pirelli Motorcycle Testing riders Salvo Pennisi, Vincenzo Frisina and Domenico Oliveri, and Dr. Alfredo Speranzoni from the University of Siena Faculty of Medicine set off from Anchorage, Alaska and will travel across the continent to Miami, Fla. on Harley-Davidson motorcycles equipped with Pirellis Night Dragon tires to demonstrate the tires performance. Dr. Speranzoni will monitor the Pirelli testers and gather data for his research on the relationship between hormones and positive stress.

Over the journeys 17 stages, the Night Dragon tires will face a wide range of climate and road conditions, from ice to deserts, the Rocky Mountains to the Great Lakes, countrysides and cities. The journey is part of Pirellis Moto Business Units development philosophy of testing its products on real climates and terrain.

Pirelli's test of its Night Dragon tires covers 6,000 miles, 5 times zones from Alaska to Florida.
The testers will ride 2008 Harley-Davidson Fat Boys to test the radial version of the Night Dragon tires and one 2008 Ultra Classic Electra Glide for testing the use of bias-ply tires with the bikes Brembo Antilock Break System. Each bike is equipped with monitoring equipment to measure each tires performance.

The test riders will also be blogging their journey, providing highlights and photographs from each stage of the trip. Destinations on their itinerary include a stop in Sturgis, SD, Harley-Davidsons headquarters in Milwaukee, Wis., Pirellis U.S. headquarters in Rome, Ga. and Bruce Rossmeyers Destination Daytona, the largest Harley-Davidson dealership in North America.
