Indian Moving Forward With 2009 Chief

Willfully forgetting failed attempts of others to resurrect one of America's most historied brands, Indian Motorcycle company works toward finalizing the 2009 Chief. According to Indian Motorcycle News, the company's official newsletter, the Powerplus motor, transmission and chassis are being quality tested, and styling details are being worked out.

Pointing to an image of the Chief on the company's website, Indian says in its newsletter that though it's not a "100% accurate view of the production Chief" the bike pictured on the site is "a very good depiction of the classic and elegant direction our designers are taking."

What could be perceived as a safety valve, the company also notes that they "will not release the new Indian Chief until it meets our engineers and riders' high expectations and we are certain it can carry the Indian name into the future." Regardless, deposits are being taken on the 2009 Chief. The companys website,, says the first deliveries will take place this fall, but weve been fooled by previous dates announced by Indian.

Hand-in-hand with progress on the Chief is the continued construction of the company's flagship dealership that will be located in Lowell, NC, close to the company's headquarters in Kings Mountain, NC. The first of an initial 50, the dealership is slated to open in the next 36 months. An artist's rendering on the company's website reflects the "Indian Springfield-era iconic themes and 21st Century forward styling" Indian Motorcycle company plans as a template of sorts for the remaining 49 dealerships that will sell and service Indian motorcycles, parts and accessories exclusively.

Also slated for the near future are customized event tractor/trailers that will provide a multimedia experience of Indian's 107-year history while bringing the new Chief for people to see and hear during various rallies and events across the country next summer.
