Mercedes-Benz’s luxury high performance arm AMG and Ducati have formed a new partnership including sponsorship of Ducati’s MotoGP team.

The German automaker announced the partnership at Mercedes’ presentation at the Las Angeles Auto Show. MotoGP racer Nicky Hayden and Ducati President and Chief Executive Officer Gabriele del Torchio were on hand for the presentation. The presentation also marked the North American debut of the Ducati Diavel which premiered alongside the new Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG.

“Well, if this is my company bike and this is my company car, I’d say I’m doing pretty well,” says Hayden about the partnership.

“We are especially proud to have AMG as one of our sponsors for the Ducati MotoGP Team,” says Gabriele del Torchio. “I am also very pleased that our joint marketing activities are well under way. In AMG we have found a partner who perfectly reflects our brand values of high performance, motorsport, excitement and our sense of unmistakable style and design.”

Ducati and Mercedes-AMG will collaborate on marketing and sponsoring activities. AMG will be the official car partner for Ducati’s MotoGP team and riders Hayden and Valentino Rossi in 2011. Ducati motorcycles will be available for test rides at select AMG events, while AMG cars will similarly be available at select Ducati events.

Ducati and Mercedes-Benz do have a previous working relationship. Mercedes-Benz took part at the 2010 World Ducati Week, presenting a special edition SLK200 Kompressor Naked model.
