BMW Splits with WSBK Team Manager

Tardozzi let go despite improved results
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Oct. 01, 2010
BMW Motorrad Motorsport has parted ways with Davide Tardozzi, team manager of its factory World Superbike team.

Tardozzi joined the BMW team in January after a successful tenure with Ducatis WSBK team. With Tardozzis leadership, the BMW team showed some improvement in this, its second season in the WSBK Championship, including the first two podium results for the BMW S1000RR.

According to an official statement from BMW, Tardozzi and the team agreed to part by mutual consent, though reports from Europe say there was some conflict between Tardozzi and the German manufacturer. The timing of the announcement lends credence to that theory, coming during the qualifying practice day before the season finale at Magny-Cours in France. Tardozzi was also conspicuously absent from BMWs announcement earlier in the week about signing Leon Haslam and Troy Corser to race in the 2011 season.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Berthold Hauser confirms there were some differences in opinion.

With his wealth of experience Davide has been a great help to us this season in his role as Team Manager, says Hauser. However, he and the team had different ideas regarding the structure of the team. We would like to thank Davide for his contribution to a good partnership and wish him all the best for the future.
