Expect similar upgrades to the Panigale V4 SP

The Ducati Streetfighter V4 lineup is about to add a new, higher-spec SP model. The confirmation comes to us via the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency which listed the Streetfighter V4 SP alongside the Streetfighter V4 and V4S as models certified for 2022.

The certification confirms that the SP’s engine remains the same 1103cc V-Four as the existing Streetfighter models, claiming 208 hp and 90.4 lb-ft. What the certification doesn’t tell us, is what Ducati did to make the new variant worthy to be called an “SP”.

Ducati revealed the Panigale V4 SP last November. It should give us the biggest clues on what to expect from a Streetfighter V4 SP.

In Ducati-speak, the letters “SP” stand for “Sport Production.” First used on the Ducati 851 and most recently on the Panigale V4 SP, the letters are used to denote a production model with technical upgrades to make it faster on the track. The SP version of the Panigale offers the most clues about what to expect from the Streetfighter V4 SP.

The Panigale V4 SP gained carbon fiber wheels, Brembo Stylema R front brake calipers and a Brembo MCS radial pump with Multiple Click System (MCS) and remote adjuster, all upgrades over the relatively more pedestrian Panigale V4 S.

Ducati claims the carbon fiber wheels are 3 pounds lighter than the V4 S’ forged aluminum wheels. The Streetfighter V4 S uses similar forged aluminum three-spoke wheels as the Panigale V4 S, so we can expect the SP version to also get the lightweight carbon fiber wheels.

The Stylema R calipers use different racing-derived pistons from the regular Stylemas, with radial ventilation holes that Brembo claims helps reduce the temperature of the brake fluid and improve performance stability. The Brembo 19.21 MCS radial master cylinder offers variable distance and ratio adjustment, letting the rider change the brake lever pivot distance and customize braking feel.

The Panigale V4 SP also employs a billet aluminum STM EVO-SBK dry clutch, with Ducati claiming a more effective anti-hop function. The dry clutch also allows for some customization by swapping in different secondary springs.

Other features from the Panigale V4 SP that we might expect to find on the Streetfighter V4 SP include anodized aluminum alloy pegs, a lighter 520 pitch chain, a billet aluminum steering stem, adjustable aluminum pegs with carbon fiber heel guard, and additional carbon fiber components. And, of course, there will be a special livery to denote the more exclusive Streetfighter V4 SP.

There’s no indication of when Ducati will announce the 2022 Streetfighter V4 SP. A fall announcement is likely, but we can’t rule out a reveal for later this summer.

At least Troy won't complain about a measly 100hp not being enough.

A panigale V2 would be much more likely to get my money :). 140ish HP V2 motor tuned for an earlier torque curve, drop the downforce wings for a standard look. With similar components as a base Panigale V2. Would have me checking my budget. Bonus points if they could get the price into the old Monster 1200 price ranger of under 17K CAD/ 15K USD.
