Today’s Weekend Awesome video offers highlights from the 2013 Moto3 World Championship, a thrilling three-way title battle that came down to the final race of the season.

Luis Salom, Alex Rins and Maverick Vinales entered the final round with just five points separating them. The three Spanish riders were the clear cream of the Moto3 crop, splitting victories in 16 of 17 rounds, so it seemed fitting they would decide the title at Spain’s Valencia circuit in a true winner-takes-all showdown.

All three riders were on essentially the same machine, KTM RC250GP racebikes, providing an even matchup, with just skill and a touch of luck to separate them. Salom did not have enough of the latter, crashing early, leading to a dramatic finish between Rins and Vinales.

The dual was decided on the final corner with Rins passing Vinales entering the corner only to lose the lead again on the exit. Vinales would cross the finish first to take the Moto3 World Championship.

The trio were all back at Valencia earlier this week for the 2014 preseason test. Only Rins will be returning to the Moto3 class with Vinales and Salom graduating to Moto2, this time as teammates on the Pons Racing HP 40 team.
