Pre-Polaris Indians Recalled for Cracking Rear Rims
Transport Canada has announced a recall on various Indian motorcycles from model years 2009 to 2013 because of a risk of the rims cracking. All of the recalled motorcycles were from the old Indian designs before the storied brand was acquired by Polaris Industries. But as the new owners of Indian Motorcycles, Polaris is left with the responsibility of correcting defects from previous designs.
According to Transport Canada, the rims on the rear wheels of certain motorcycles may crack, causing a sudden loss of tire pressure. This could result in a change in the motorcycle’s handling, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects the following models:
- 2011 Indian Chief Blackhawk
- 2011 Indian Chief Blackhawk Dark
- 2010 Indian Chief Bomber
- 2010-2013 Indian Chief Classic
- 2010-2013 Indian Chief Dark Horse
- 2009 Indian Chief Deluxe
- 2009-2011 Indian Chief Roadmaster
- 2009 Indian Chief Standard
- 2009-2013 Indian Chief Vintage
The recall affects 68 units in Canada. Dealers will inspect the recalled motorcycles and replace the rear rims.
At the moment, a recall has only been announced for Canada. We’ll provide an update if and when a recall is announced for the U.S. by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
