Not a bad Scooter, but Horrific Support From United Motors

I bought one of the first UM 250i's to become available, taking delivery in August of 2007--some 90 to 120 days after it was promised. That is when my problems really started.



The Scooter arrived with 4600 miles on the odometer. This could only be fixed by replacement of the instrument cluste...r, which was ordered the same day, and arrived 52 weeks later.

Then in about 8 weeks, a major seam in the seat started to seperate--it took about 44 weeks for the replacement seat to arrive.

Instruction manual?? 54 weeks before I got one of those.

Starter solenoid went out, WOW quick service on this item.

Did I mention falisifacation of advertising on this model? Check out your front and rear fairings, and notice pockets for some 68 LED's which comprise an "Illumination Cluster". This was advertised in early 2008 on UM's web site, and was instantly removed from that web site when a Tuscaloosa, AL owner pressed to have the LED package added to his scooter. It seems this illumination package was meant for European pr Asian owners--I can but conclude they value their European or Asian customers more than their USA riders.

I claimed "Lemon" status on this scooter, and it was finally decided thay they would refund my money. I turned in the scooter, and some 6 months later got a check--short $1,102 of what I paid for the scooter.

I can only sum this up by saying it was the worst purchasing decision I have made in my lifetime. The scooter was fun to ride, but the lack of support from United Motors of America was appalling. Read Full Review

Awesome Scooter !

I got my UM xpeed 250i right before Christmas 2008...I've already put over 1200 miles on it & no problems. The acceleration is very good ...Expressway speeds...no problem . I've had it up to 80mph...pulling 6000rpm's . It's very stable , even when passing Big rigs !

I have no doubt that It will... do all of the 110mph , thats on the speedometer.Great warranty ! I would highly recommend this scooter to anyone wanting value , & dependability ! Oh , & by the way , I'm 6'4" tall 265lbs. & at last check I was getting 78mpg. Read Full Review

Great Scooter

My wife had a 2007 Matrix II 170 that maxed out a little over 60 mph so she wanted to step up to the next level. This is definitely the next level. Don't know how fast ours will go yet as we're breaking it in but it goes 65 at about half throttle and is not taxed at all. Very good ride. She thinks... the seat is very comfortable but I'm used to a motorcyle seat and start to squirm after 25 miles or so. Overall ride is very good and you feel very confident in the quality as you ride it. Brakes are very good and responsive. Got 70 mpg on the first tank. We took it to Little River Canyon in Alabama. The back side around the canyon can really be a challenge to ride but this scooter can handle it just fine and leans very good and easily into the twists and turns. We don't ride on the interstate but this scooter should handle interstate travel just fine. Plenty of storage (actually a unusually large amount) for a long trip and if needed has a nice rack on the back for more attachable bag storage. Fuel injection has it starting easily every time. Take off is very very fast for a 250 cc motor. The windshield functions very well. We have a blue one and we get compliments on it's good looks fairly regularly at stops along the way. I haven't had to order parts for this one but ordering a busted body panel for the 170 was only about a 3 day ups trip from Miami, at least I think that's where it came from. Read Full Review

UM Xpeed 250i

I bought mine new from a local yamaha dealer. It died the first day i rode it. They had to come and get it. They said the battery was no good and it wasnt charging. Got it back and it ran fine for a couple of months til out of nowhere it began idiling at 3000rpm. They said it needed the computer ref...lashed. That took about a month! Since then it has not given me any real problems. It broke in and now has plenty of power and speed. My only complaint now is leg room. Im 6'3 and my knees are almost touching the handlebars. Im not a motorcycle I am a scooter

I bought this scooter new 2008 i've had it now for 2 years.Love this thing my scooter not motorcycle has 12,000 miles on it that I have ridden.

I do all periodic maintenance with no problem.



I am now at 12,000 miles making making my cvt new again for $500.00 not to bad I guess I am

doing this m...yself labor is to high at these so called shops.

My scooter gets on hiway going 50mph 80 plus mpg, going 65mph i will get 65 to 70 mpg.I weigh 203 lbs if you weigh more than I do you'll get less mpg.
In the city I get 62 to 70 mpg.
