This bike is a WEAPON...
By (I am an Owner) on May 02, 2011Let me start by saying I've owned both a Kawasaki Concours 1400 and a Yamaha FJR.In fact I rode thie FJR cross country last summer. We did 8500 miles in 2 weeks and I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied with the Yamaha.I just purchased a Honda ST1300 and I'll begin by saying that neither of the ... two aforementioned bikes have anything on the ST except truly uneened horsepower. The Concours 1400 (a 2008) generated so much heat it was unbearable in summer.(That's why Kawasaki redesigned the entire cooling system/fairing in 2010)The Connie was an exceptionally FAST machine with great brakes anda spectacular drive train. The FJR did everything well too, although compared to the other two the drivetrain could seem a bit clunky on the FJR.The ST1300 does everything as well as either of the other two bikes and the slightly less horsepower really doesn't affect my opinion. The Connie(153 HP)the FJR (145 HP) and the ST1300 (115 HP) are all great sport tourers, but I must say the ST1300 is the most comfortable and smoothest riding of the three. So there you have it.Three GREAT sport tourers, all with similar ride characteristics, some with tons more HP and some a bit more comfortable. You really can't go wrong with any of the three...

I must be in Heaven....
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 07, 2010The only down side of this bike is that the engine heat does hit your lower legs and feet... so maybe it gets a little warm in heaven. ( NOT uncomfortable, but you do notice it ) This review may be a bit unfair as I am putting it up against my last bike a 2008 H.D. Street Glide. Apples and lemons, ... I know !! The Honda is lighter and has almost double the H.P. !! The suspension and brakes are superb on the Honda, and for a sport touring bike it accelerates quite nicely. I have been riding since the late 60's and this is bike number 10 for me. I commute daily and usually take one bike trip per year.( Vegas ) I am enjoying the Honda so much that i believe I will be riding it quite a bit more than the Hog. The electric windshield is a nice touch and all of the gauges are laid out nicely, with the sun directly behind you, a little difficult to read. I am averaging over 42 mpg with mixed freeway and stop and go traffic. The tranny shifts super smooth, couldn't say the same for the H.D.
Oh yes... the ST does sound like the Jetsons space craft, the Harley does have a good / better sounding engine. The Honda also handles way better than I ride, no hippo wallow on this bike !! IMHO a top 3 Sport / Touring bike.
