Lusk won his heat race overCarmichael and carried that momentum into the main event where he grabbed the holeshot and was followed closely by Carmichael and another Honda rider, Ezra Lusk...

Carmichael began closing in fast, passing Lusk. The crowd rose to their feet asLusk challenged and passed Carmichael several times before crashing andallowinga gap to open up. Carmichael broke away by the halfway point and eventuallytook the win and the 2001 EA Sports 250cc Supercross Championship.

Lusk, who is great friends with Carmichael, hugged his rival and congratulatedthe new champ. "I gave it my all! I made a mistake and low-sided the bike atthehalfway point and gave RC enough margin to win it. I'll take second tonight, but I want that first-place finish next week, " said Lusk.
