Just as in AMA Superbike and World Superbike competition, tire wars are serious business in World Motocross. Mickael Pichon and Stefan Everts' recent wins in round three of the World MX Championship keeps tire manufacturer Pirelli atop the highly coveted 250cc and 500cc standings.

In Bradford, Australia last weekend, Mickael Pichon kept his 2001 recordperfect as he posted his third straight 250cc win. He grabbed the top spot on just the second lap when lap-one leader Pit Beirer crashed, and Pichonled the rest of the way home...

Fellow Pirelli rider Josh Coppins followed up his third-place Dutch GP finish with a fifth in Australia.

In the 500cc final, Stefan Everts and his Pirelli-shod Yamaha won their second consecutive GP. Like Pichon, Everts took over the race leadon the second lap, and continued to show that his 18-month injury recovery hasn't slowed him down much.

Everts and Pirelli have been on the 500ccbox in all three rounds so far, posting an opening-round second-place finish in addition to his two wins. Marnicq Bervoets kept Pirelli in third place inthe 500 GP standings with his fourth-place finish in Australia.

Note:While Pirelli tires are a big name in Europe, they're not as well-known here in the US. They're making a big push these days, though, and are definately a company to keep your eyes on.
