AMA/Prostar Announce New Hot Rod Cruiser Class

Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S.A. recently signed a deal with AMA/Prostar to be the presenting sponsor of a new motorcycle drag racing class entitled "Hot Rod Cruiser." The Hot Rod Cruiser class will feature all brands of production based V-Twin cruiser motorcycles with limited modifications permitted...



"This class was created in response to the tremendous growth and popularityof cruiser motorcycles in the U.S," said AMA/Prostar's President KeithKizer. "This is virtually an untapped market and we know owners of thisclass of motorcycle are anxious to go racing. Further enticement will comefrom Yamaha contingencies posted at each event, including a year-endchampionship pay out."

"The 98 cubic inch Road Star is the perfect platform for this class" saidmotorcycle product manager Derek Brooks. "The fact that it's air-cooled,push rod, and features a belt final drive system make performancemodifications simple. We're also excited that AMA/ProStar took thisinitiative and are proud to be the presenting sponsor."

The 2001 racing season kicks off on the weekend of March 2, in Gainesville,Florida with an eight-race series.
