Motorcycle Audio Options

Aside from "on-board" audio solutions such as a stereo system and mounted speakers on a bike, what other audio solutions are available?I do not want to mount a permanent system with speakers on my bike, however, I would like to enjoy some tunes and even monitor an ocassional AM radio station, especially when the weather turns foul. An CD/MP3 player stuffed into my jacket might work, however I am uneducated about effectiveness/hazards of a headphone/earbud system inside my full face helmet. Your input is invited! Thanks
