H-D cancels factory open house events

York, Kansas City tourism to take a hit
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jun. 01, 2010
Harley-Davidson has cancelled the annual open house events at its York, Pa., and Kansas City, Mo., facilities.

The open houses draw thousands of tourists each September but because of recent restructuring efforts, Harley-Davidson says there will not be enough resources to host the events.

The York open house traditional coincides with York Bike Night festivities while the Kansas City open house is usually held in conjunction with a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Both events will continue despite the cancellation of the open houses.

Regular weekday factory tours are expected to continue.

The cancellations are expected to impact local businesses such as restaurants and hotels that usually rely on the open houses as a tourist attraction.
