2011 Mission R Race Bike Revealed

Electric superbike uses 14.4 kWh battery
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Dec. 17, 2010
Mission Motors has revealed its new electric race bike, the Mission R, which is expected to race in the 2011 TTXGP.

The Mission R is equipped with a liquid-cooled three-phase AC induction motor claiming 141hp and 115 ft-lb., both an upgrade on Missions previous model, the Mission One which claims 136hp and 100 ft-lb. Powering the motor is a high-capacity 14.4 kWh battery. By comparison, the highest capacity battery offered for the Brammo Empulse is 10.0 kWh. According to Mission Motors, the Mission R can reach speeds over 160 mph.

The Mission R uses a high-capacity 14.4 kWh battery pack but maintains the dimensions of a supersport and claiming a weight of 545 pounds.

Despite the larger battery, Mission was able to keep the new race bike small, claiming smaller dimensions than a 600cc supersport, and a weight of 545 pounds. Mass centralization was one of the main goals for the Mission Rs chassis designer James Parker. A stressed member of the chassis, the motor is mounted closer to the rear wheel than a combustion engine. The battery is stored in a carbon fiber case within the steel trellis subframe.

The motor is a stressed member of the chassis. Notice the unconventional angle of the rear shock.

The suspension system is composed of MotoGP-spec Öhlins components, with a fully-adjustable FGR-000 TTX25 gas charged fork and TTX36 rear shock and linkage system. The rear shock is mounted in an unconventional angle, angling forward from under the seat to right behind the motor. The unusual angle helps achieve a shorter wheelbase. The Marchesini forged magnesium wheels are equipped with MotoGP-quality Brembo brakes.
