Valentino Rossi Could Complete One Lap Of The World This Weekend

As if Valentino Rossi hasn’t already accomplished enough during his grand prix career, The Doctor is on track to record another remarkable milestone: If he completes the 15th lap of the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend at the Circuito de Jerez Àngel Nieto, Rossi will have completed 8,730 laps. An amazing number on its own, the achievement will equate to having ridden 40,075 kilometers, or just over 24,901 miles – the equivalent of a lap around the world!

When you take into consideration this milestone only includes laps he’s completed during races and not practice or qualifying, the achievement becomes that much more amazing. While a testament to Rossi’s longevity, the fact he’s still competitive (and therefore relevant) is also a feat unto itself. Sure, Rossi isn’t the dominant force he once was, but if the conditions are right and the stars align, he’s still a wildcard capable of winning. Not bad for someone who’s been racing at the world level almost as long as Marc Marquez has been alive.

Troy's been riding motorcycles and writing about them since 2006, getting his start at Rider Magazine. From there, he moved to Sport Rider Magazine before finally landing at Motorcycle.com in 2011. A lifelong gearhead who didn't fully immerse himself in motorcycles until his teenage years, Troy's interests have always been in technology, performance, and going fast. Naturally, racing was the perfect avenue to combine all three. Troy has been racing nearly as long as he's been riding and has competed at the AMA national level. He's also won multiple club races throughout the country, culminating in a Utah Sport Bike Association championship in 2011. He has been invited as a guest instructor for the Yamaha Champions Riding School, and when he's not out riding, he's either wrenching on bikes or watching MotoGP.
