2020 Indian FTR Carbon Announced for International Markets

Carbon fiber version somehow weighs more than regular FTR1200S

Indian announced a new FTR 1200 variant with carbon fiber bodywork for international markets. As of this writing, the 2020 Indian FTR Carbon has not been confirmed for the U.S., though that may change at any moment. Right now, the Carbon model has only officially been confirmed for Indian’s Europe, Middle East and Africa division. We can confirm that it has also been certified for Australia.

The Carbon model is based on the FTR1200S, but comes with tank/airbox covers, headlight nacelle, front fender and pillion cover made of carbon fiber. The FTR Carbon also comes equipped with a black Akrapoviç exhaust and a specially-branded center console plate.

Mechanically, the FTR Carbon is similar to the FTR1200S, with a fully adjustable 43mm inverted cartridge fork, fully adjustable side-mounted rear shock with aluminum piggy-back reservoir, and dual Brembo Monobloc M4.32 front brake calipers. And, of course, there’s the liquid-cooled 1203cc DOHC 60° V-Twin engine with four valves per cylinder, claiming 123 hp at 8250 rpm and 87 lb-ft. at 5900 rpm.

With all the carbon fiber components, you’d assume the FTR Carbon would be lighter than the other FTR models. And you’d be wrong. Indian claims a dry weight of 502.6 pounds, or about 13 pounds heavier than what Indian claims for the FTR1200S and 15 pounds heavier than the non-S model.

In the U.K., the 2020 Indian FTR Carbon is priced at £14,699 (US$18,388), about US$2,126 more than the FTR1200S and US$750 more than a FTR1200S Race Replica model.
