Product description

This 1990 Honda RC30 is one of 316 examples imported to the US and was reportedly purchased new in Ohio. It was then inherited by the son of the original owner following his passing, and was acquired by the in 2008. Power is from a 748cc DOHC V4 that was factory-equipped with a special crankshaft, pistons, cylinder heads, and clutch and is paired with a close-ratio six-speed transmission. The bike is finished in red, white, and blue and features a single-sided swingarm, adjustable Showa suspension, a center-mounted tachometer, a solo seat, and dual front disc brakes. Approximately 100 of its 1,600 indicated miles were added under current ownership, during which service is said to have included replacement of the mirrors and several rubber parts as well as an oil change in 2020. This VFR750R is offered with a clean Illinois title.

Honda produced 3,000 examples of the RC30 from 1987 to 1990 as homologation versions of its 1988 and 1989 World Superbike champion race bikes, all of which were finished in red, white, and blue livery. Features include an aluminum twin-spar frame, a solo seat, rearset foot controls, Dzus fasteners for the lower fairing, and a fuel tank vent. The mirrors and several rubber components have been replaced, reportedly using Honda parts from Japan.

Six-spoke front and eight-spoke rear wheels are finished in white and wear Dunlop tires measuring 17″ and 18″ respectively. Showa suspension consists of an adjustable telescopic front fork and a single-sided rear swingarm mounted with an adjustable monoshock. Braking is from dual front discs with two-piston calipers as well as a single version in the rear, and the brake pads feature quick-release fittings.

Instrumentation includes a center-mounted tachometer with a 12,500-rpm redline, a 185-mph speedometer, an engine temperature gauge, and indicator lights. The five-digit odometer shows 1,600 miles, approximately 100 of which have been ridden.

The liquid-cooled 748cc V4 is shown running in the cold-start video above and produced 118 horsepower from the factory thanks in part to titanium connecting rods and 16 valves actuated by dual gear-driven overhead camshafts. Components unique to the RC30 include the cylinder heads, valvetrain, crankshaft, pistons, oil pump, and water pump.

Power is transferred to the rear wheel through an RC30-specific clutch, a six-speed close-ratio transmission, and a drive chain. Maintenance is said to have been performed, with the most recent including an oil change in 2023.
