Indian Motorcycle finally unveiled not one but two highly interesting motorcycles today, inspired by their highly successful FTR750 flat tracker: FTR1200 and FTR1200 S. Adding the “S” on the order sheet, when bikes become available in the spring, will get you, in addition to the 1203cc V-Twin-powered basic street tracker: fully adjustable front and rear suspension, a 4.3-inch Ride Command Bluetooth-equipped LCD touch screen, lean-angle sensitive stability control, ABS, traction control, wheelie mitigation control – and three ride modes.

Upcoming Motorcycle Events: September 25 – October 23

We’re less than a week from the official introduction, but Suzuki has released the first look at the new Katana in its latest teaser video.

We already know Triumph is introducing a new 1200cc Scrambler, and the California Air Resources Board has certified a new Speed Twin, and now it looks like the British manufacturer will also be updating its 900cc Street Scrambler and Street Twin for 2019.

Suzuki has released yet another teaser for what is expected to be a brand new Katana model. This is actually the third video, with the first one released Sept 5 and the second last week. The first two didn’t show much, beside confirm the bike has something to do with a sword, but the latest video offers the first look at the 2019 Suzuki Katana’s fuel tank.

Upcoming Motorcycle Events: September 11 – October 9

Kawasaki provided the first look at two new entry-level bikes for the European market, a new Ninja 125 sportbike and a naked Z125. Kawasaki initially announced the two small-displacement models at EICMA last November, but now we have initial details ahead of the full announcement which will come next month at Intermot.

Suzuki released a video teasing a new motorcycle debuting at Intermot, and all indications suggest it will be a brand new Katana.

The California Air Resources Board has certified a new BMW engine, confirming an entire new range of 1254cc R models for 2019. According to the new CARB executive order, the engine will be equipped on five models: the R1250GS, R1250GS Adventure, R1250R, R1250RS and R1250RT.

We saw it at EICMA in concept form but we can now confirm the Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 is heading for production as a 2019 model.

Beginning with Intermot on October 3rd, moving on to AIMExpo October 12th, and EICMA November 4th, we come to the final rounds of the moto show season, the Progressive International Motorcycle Show (IMS) leading off in Long Beach, California. For the moto-public the Progressive IMS tour has six more dates ending February 12th in Chicago. With all the new 2017 machinery to be seen, we recommend attending because the Progressive IMS is the only place you’ll find everything motorcycle under one roof.

With the announcement of the new Honda CBR1000RR SP and SP2 at Intermot, as well as the standard CBR1000RR at EICMA 2016, we haven’t been this excited about Honda’s flagship literbike since, well, 2008, when the now outgoing model was first introduced to the world. So, for this Church of MO installment, we’re going back in time to October 2007, when we got our first look at the then all-new 2008 Honda CBR1000RR; a sportbike we’d grow very fond of over the years. Technically, the Kawasaki Z900 made its debut at Intermot, but information was still preliminary at the time, with the caveat that final details would be released at EICMA 2016. Well, EICMA 2016 has arrived and, as far as we can tell after reading Kawasaki’s press materials, the Z900 hasn’t changed since its debut in Germany – save for a seat height that’s changed by one whole millimeter.

With the 2016 iterations of Intermot and AIMExpo in the books, we’re left with EICMA as the remaining traditional trade/consumer show with some yet unrevealed new models for 2017. Rumor has it Honda is saving a world premiere for the Long Beach IMS show a week after EICMA, so there may be a surprise yet come. We’ll let ya know as soon as we can confirm. So far this year there’s been two big motorcycle shows: Intermot in Germany, and AIMExpo in Orlando. During those two shows, major manufacturers introduced no less than 22 brand new or heavily revised models for 2017. Include some of the lesser known OEMs, such as Benelli, SSR, and National Moto & Cycle we reported on from AIMExpo, and the list grows larger.
