  • Still runs like new after 8 years
By  (I am an Owner) on Mar 16, 2021

I bought this bike used with only 2400 miles on it in late 2013. The only problem I've had with it is the cruise control which has been acting up the last year or so, and it's getting worse. The "armed" light will randomly start flashing indicating an error and then I can't turn the cruise control ...

I've added many farkles over the years, but the best one was a Russel Day Long custom seat. The stock seat causes pain after 45 minutes, but I can truly ride all day with the Russel seat in total comfort. Other items I've added are:

    - Shad SH-50 top case with back rest.

    - Kuryakyn ISO Pegs (freeway pegs).

    - MV handlebar risers.

    - Kuryakyn license plate helmet lock.

    - Touring windshield.

    - Canyon Bars (crash protection).

    - BackOff Wig Wag brake light.

The FJR is big enough for long trips but small enough to still be fun in the twisties. The low-end grunt makes shifting non-essential most of the time. My only dislikes are the seating position (even with the bar risers, I'm a bit forward and can't comfortably lean back on my backrest) and some handlebar buzz at freeway speeds. The newer models with a 6th gear should fix the buzzing problem. My next bike will probably be a bit more upright like the BMW R 1250 RT. In the meantime, I still love this bike.

The Yamaha is one well built bike and cones from a long line of design which hasn't changed a lot over the years , testament to what's right on the bike . It is well packaged apart fro the stupid access or non access to the battery which needs some screws removed to get to the terminals , no guard ...
