KICK ASS BIKE
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 19, 2011This is my first enduro and I am sold on it. The xt250 will tkae you places you never though existed and then some. From the highway to the backroads or dirt trails this is the best bang for the buck. I have upgraded exhaust to FMF Powercore 4. What a job it did for the bike. Overall power and torque ... are up. Makes the bike come alive. EASY Install. I have upgraded tires to the Dunlop D606. AWESOME tires on road and off. Handle good in wet weather!!! Even better off road. Very low hum and smoother ride than factory tires. I am looking for the K&N air filter(NOT YET AVAILIBLE) Beginner to expert will love this bike and how it handles off road.Any ???s pjtoy96@yahoo.com

Awesome transportation!
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 04, 2011This bike is great for commuting. Today I did a 124 mile ride and only added 1.3 gal. of premium fuel to top it back off. How's that for fuel economy! Excellent beginners bike (like me), but my husband enjoys riding it too (a very experienced rider). Thank you for the previous reviews about the stock ... tires and the "wobble" because thats what mine does. Besides the tires and maybe a more comfortable seat, this would be a 5 star bike. Great for women that have shorter legs!

09 XT250 Yamaha
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 05, 2011I'm a 5'10" 155lb 60 y.o. who wanted something easy to explore the endless New England backroads and easy to moderate trails with and think I made the right choice. I've only got a few hundred miles on it so far, but it is a blast on back roads because it is light and nimble and rolls right through ... nasty pavement way better than my long distance 800 bmw sport touring rig. I love the great economy and also you can ride it like you meant it without suddenly flying 100mph like on the 800. Fun and easy to ride, I love it. I'll upgrade tires when these wear out, and sometimes wish it came with an Al bashplate though I haven't needed it yet. It also has a pretty good headlight for a small dualsport. It seems like it should be easy to maintain when the time comes too.

Nice bike with BAD tires.
By (I am an Owner) on Jun 23, 2010I purchased this bike with only 4 miles on it and I enjoy riding it on and off road. As others have stated the wheel wobble on the front tire is terrible!! I tried to get it replaced by Yamaha under warranty but they flat out said NO...not part of the warranty. I have about 450 miles on the bike ... now and am planning to get new tires very soon and hope this will make a huge difference.

Great Entry Level Bike
By (I am an Owner) on Mar 08, 2010I have had the 2009 XT-250 for nearly a year with about 1200 miles (1000 street miles). This bike is well balanced and very easy to ride. I keep saying it's like a mountain bike with an engine. The stock tires are ok, but I agree with previous posts and will probably swap out the tires soon. ... I climbed a steep loose gravel hill recently and the grip wasn't very good. I wish Yamaha would have thrown in a skid plate. This bike is great on trails and I feel comfortably pushing it to 55 mph on the highway. The bike is light enough for a rider to push up a ramp or off the trail. I think the gearing is just fine when combining on/off road riding. I am 5-11 tall and 180lbs and this bike (I feel) is borderline too small. Next bike will be a 400CC dual sport.

A little sweetie!
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 10, 2010I've had and ridden motorcycles for about 40 yrs. I recently bought a new 2009 Yamaha XT250, what a sweetie to ride! easy, fun, economical. I ride almost exclusively on pavement so i changed out the wobbly OEM tires for some Avon Distanzas and now i have an even better bike! 1st gear is about ... useless for street work, so i am considering going up one tooth on the drive sprocket to see if that helps without robbing torque. I love this bike! One of the best, and often overlooked aspects of this dual sport is that with a 31 inch inseam, i can still sit flatfooted at the stoplight.

XT250 or XT 225
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 05, 2009I have owned both and there isn't much between them. 250=30 lbs heaver Top speed seems to be about 10mph more. They can be lowered for the shorter people about tyhe same. My wife wants another 225 and I want her to get a 250 so we would have two of them. Quess what- we will get another XT225. If ... you are a heaver person I would get the 250 mainly for the added speed. Some of the 225's were hard starting and I don't know if the 250's are having the same problem. I don't think they are. Good Luck

Yamaha Xt250
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 12, 2009Well, I rode a Yamaha XT225 for 10 years until trading it in on an XT250. My riding is in the woods following deer trails, creeks, fields, etc. at speeds of 5-15 mph. Thus, I changed the rear sprocket to 53 teeth, added a skidplate from Ricochet, and a pair of Dunlop 606 tires (90% off road, 10% ... on). Though this bike is different from my XT225 with only 5 speeds and 30 lbs. heavier..the geometry of it makes it feel like a lighter bike. My few changes allows me to go anywhere in the woods with confidence.
It is more powerful than the Honda 230 and smaller physically than the Kawasaki 250. I am 5'8".

Fun little bike
By (I am an Owner) on May 15, 2009This is a great little bike, lots of pep, light weight, great dual sport. The factory tires are not good though. Have a wobble. To get the best out of this bike, change the tires...

XT 250
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 26, 2009I have had my XT 250 for a few months now, and have managed to put close to 150 miles on it in temperatures of around 28 - 40 degrees. What an awesome bike! I travel mostly on gravel so a dual purpose bike is a necessity until I have the confidence needed for a cruiser. I did have to have a lowering ... kit made before I could ride it. The specs showed it to be slightly taller than my TTR125LE, and it turned out to be a few inch difference. I'm 5' 2" so the bike had to be brought down to about 30 inches. I have had no problems with it so far. I've driven it on the highway and it still runs smooth at 67 mph. I am inching my way toward 70. I just wish there were more accessories available for it. I would love a windshield and luggage rack. I definitely feel this bike is worth purchasing.

2009 Yamaha XT250
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 27, 2009What a fun little bike! This bike replaced a Suzuki DR650 and at first I was a little concerned that I may have made a mistake, but I do not think that anymore. Yes the 650 excelled on the freeway but the 250 will still maintain legal freeway speeds (even up hills) so unless one does a lot of freeway ... riding the XT250 will do anything the bigger dual sports will do, and when taken off road its light weigh makes it far easier to throw around. I have ridden it on freeways, city streets, and off road in sand, hard pack roads, and rough terrain, and so far I have not been disappointed.
