Some corrections required.

Scooter performs reasonably well for daily commuting of 18.4 miles round trip. Mileage is computed at approximately 79 miles per gallon. On a straight level smooth road, must keep speed below 46 miles per hour to avoid violent vertical vibration of front wheel assembly. The inside storage compartme...nt is generous enough for lunch, jacket, walking shoes, and other small items. Front storage spaces are unusable for storing anything other than registration and insurance papers, folded to small size. Although book states fuel tank holds 1.6 gallons, it takes 1.1 gallons to fill it from almost dry empty to the top. Either manufacturer or assembler at the dealer, failed to remove packing material wrapped around front radiator, causing the unit to smell as if burning. Disassembled front cowling, and removed packing material which had started to melt unto radiator, thus, the smell, which is no longer a problem once cleared. Rubber seals under the seat comming apart required owner installed screws to retain in place. Tail light at the end of rear cargo grill, had six red L.E.D.s installed facing down towards ground. After re-arranging to the face the rear of the scooter, the brake lights are clearlt visible from afar. Brake lines and other control cables rounting cause loud impacts to plastic cowlings around frame. Seems as if clamps were not used to secure lines and cables as designed. Owner rerouting and securing of same necessary to minimize noises. Head of securing screw broke loose from seat locking mechanism. Replaced screws with better quality hardware. Electric switch for turn signal fails to operate properly when left turn signal is selected. Still have to work on it. Engine stalls when refueled, although there is fuel visible at the bottom of the tank. At first, the scooter would stall with a full tank, took it to the shop, and the service tech determined that the fuel shutoff gravity valve was installed upside down, blocking fuel from going to the carburator. Wife loves it

We bought the UM Matrix II 170 about eight weeks ago. It takes off surprisingly fast in traffic. Very solid ride for it's light weight. Steers and handles very well. Single cylander typically has some vibration at idle but once you take off it rides very smooth at any speed up to and including 60.... It got up to 60 easily with my 190 lbs. I'm sure it will do 65 whem my 105 lb wife gets brave enough. It climbs hills with ease and doesn't struggle as it has plenty of power throughout it's speed range. My wife rides it mostly and is very pleased with the comfort but I find myself shifting around after 25 miles or so. It had been sitting on the dealer floor for a year and hopefully that explains why we had to take it back after 150 miles to get the carburator cleaned as it lost power and wouldn't run.
Quick fix from dealer and it was good as new. Hopefully this won't happen again. Nice features are digital clock, gas gauge, tripometer, speedometer, odometer, and you can change the dash colors for night driving. We found an aftermarket windshield for it on the internet that looks like it was made for it. Lockable storage is awesome under the seat as you can store your helmet and a few other things inside. There are a couple of small but usable storage areas for a cell phone or insurance papers up front and one is lockable. I don't know why you'd have to use it but I was able to use the manual kick start to start it just to try it but the electric start hasn't even had any hint of not starting it except for when we had the carburator problem. For the price and the warranty you get it so far seems to be a good deal. I tried to get her to ride behind me on my motorcyle the other day but she won't do it anymore. Not pleased

I have had three problems with my matrix 170 II



1. left the dealer and the speedometer was not working. Took them an hour to take it apart only to discover that whoever assembled it smashed the assembly. They bent it back and told me it would be fine.



2. rear tail light did not work (righ...t out of the shop). Took them another hour to find a short.

3. Scooter is very difficult to start. It starts up and then stalls...over and over again. Have not gotten back to the dealer with this but where is the choke? Where is the idle adjustment? NOTHING I can adjust.

4. The kick starter feels like I am breaking something everytime that I use it.

DEPENDABLE, ECONOMICAL AND FUN TO RIDE

I have owned a Matrix II 170 for a year and put 1000 miles on it. I purchased it used with 150 miles on the odometer. I get 70 mpg and have had no problems. Only dislike is the poor headlight system. Not bright enough, there are two bulbs, one high beam and one low beam. Read Full Review
