Reliable Fast Tourer
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 27, 2010The Triumph Sprint 1050 ABS is ultra reliable and has never let me down during my one year of ownership. The finish on the bike is excellent and is showing no signs of wear and tear. The bike pulls very strongly through all gears and right up to the red line and the over run from the triple engine ... really is something special. I find the bike smooth and easy to ride even at low speeds. The only thing I have changed is the tyres. The bike came fitted with Bridgestones and I have changed these to Michelin Pilot Road dual compounds and these give the bike added stability and grip in the twisties.I found the Bridgestones uninspiring in the wet. This bike loves twisty roads and has all the power you will ever need. The brakes are excellent and the optional abs is well worth buying. The fairing gives excellent protection from the weather and I have been out for extended rides in the bad weather which we often get here in Scotland without issues. My bike has the standard windshield which I find keeps the wind off easily up tp about 80 mph which for me is a perfect touring speed. I have not tried the touring screen however the dealer who I trust tells me that the touring screen is effective for high speed runs. The heated grips are really good and the bike came fitted with electrical socket for Sat NAv etc. I am an older rider and can easily ride for 3-4 hours without aches and pains. I actually prefer the standard seat to the optional gel seat. The only complaint I have is in relation to the supplied panniers which are too small. They wont take a spare helmet. I would happily tour anywhere on this bike and the after sales service I have had from Triumph in Renfrew has been outstanding.
I think the bike offers outstanding value for money and in terms of reliability is about as good as it gets. I also love the look of the bike which is really nice with the underseat exhaust pipes etc. For real world motorcycling this is all the bike you will ever need. You will never utilise the full power of this engine on UK roads. I drive progressively and the bile still returns about 46 mpg which coupled with the 20 litre tank gives about 200 miles between fills. centre stand is standard. Dont read some of the rubbish being printed about this bike beginning to get dated. I've had German and Japanese bikes from various manufactureres and this has been my best bike by a big margin. Ride safely
