Great All Around Motorcycle!
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 14, 2012I love having the option of driving gravel roads or paved roads to get where I'm going to in any weather condition. I chose my second pair of tires: Continental Trail Attack. The V-Strom 650 handled great with stock tires, but with the Continental Trail Attacks loose gravel roads, spring frost pockets ... on gravel roads, or sharp turns on asphalt are no problem and take them on with more confidence. I would recommend the Suzuki 2007 V-Strom 650 ABS to my best friend or a family member without hesitation.

Great general purpose bike for the price
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 15, 2008On the positive side the V-Strom is good for any type of riding except long stretches of straight highway. The safety of the ABS brakes plus the high seating makes it one of the best urban motorcycles made. I have used it on dirt roads and it does OK, though I would put more agreesive tiers and ... additional protection on the bottom of the motorcycle if I did a lot of that (it is too heavy for true off road). I love riding on country roads with it. You can easily get after market luggage for travelling.
Downside is that it is not as good as a $12,000 motorcycle. If you do not plan on leaving pavement, the newest model Triumph Tiger does everything this motorcycle does except better. If you do plan on leaving the pavement, I have not rode one (it was not available when I bought my motorcycle) but I bet the BMW F 800 GS is markedly better.
I have decided though that I would be much happier riding a V-Strom and taking all of the money I save and spending it on other things.
