2009 KYMCO People S 200

I've owned the Kymco People S 50, 125 and now the 200. All 3 machines were flawless in their mechanics, handling and affordability. I replaced the carb on the 125 in less than an hour. I love the audible turn signals - great safety feature to remember to cancel that flasher. The 16 inch wheels float ... you over potholes much safer than 10 inch donuts.

My only complaint, common to all 3 is the rear drum brake - a little weak but adequate.

I am 73 and I never owned a scooter before. I don't know how it could be improved, by my way of thinking. I get at least 70 MPG. I use straight gas, no ethenal in it. I did put a full windshield on it, I really like that. I don't know how much power I lost with the full wind.

WOW I can't believe how responsive and peppy this scooter is. I receive many compliments on the scooter's good looks. This is my first scooter and when I am riding, other big bikers look at me and give me the "hi sign".I live in Southern California and i am anticipating being able to ride all year. ... My Dad bought me a Sears labeled Vespa when I was thirteen, that was fifty-three years ago. now after riding and owning many bikes of all sizes,from Harley's to Honda's, dirt bikes to cruisers. Now having just purchased a People S200 I wonder why I wasted all that money when nothing has been as much ... fun as riding a Scooter. My Scoot goes plenty fast for around town gets unbelievable gas mileage, I can park it anywhere and living in Florida the land is flat and the weather is great. Keep on scootin'

I bought this scooter used in Dec of 2010. Totally stock with only 1400miles on it. Over the past two years it has seen little to no use. I am 6ft tall at 230lbs. I found it a comfortable ride, good acceleration, and a quiet motor. Even up steep hills it pulled me at about 45-50mph! Top speed on ... open flats was about 60mph. Cons: legroom a little short & underseat storage small.

I have owned several scooters over the years and for the pure FUN factor, the Kymco People 200 S cannot be beat. My husband and I now have 2 of them. The styling is more modern than the 'euro-styles', the engine is peppy and quick, steering is responsive, and the gas mileage is outstanding for a ... scoot that can go 70 mph (I've had mine at 72 mph on flat ground). We live in the foothills of the Cascade mountains, and we can still go up the hills at 45 mph without straining the engine.

The scooter died one week after purchase. When I brought it to the dealer they said the battery was defective, so they replaced it. One week later, guess what? Dead again. They can't explain why this is happening, and they can't fix it. Their recommended solution is to charge the battery every week. ... $60 for a charger. Funny thing, the battery only accepts 4 charges before it dies. Add $70 a month for new batteries. Apparently Kymco considers the above a good faith attempt to honor the warranty.

Aside from electrical problems, the bike experiences spontaneous engine failure, violent shudders, and the brakes are barely sufficient.

I was riding down the road at 40 mph and the engine just stopped. I was able to restart immediately. Why did this happen? Kymco doesn't know, but they think it shouldn't have. I guess it takes a factory certified technician to render that opinion.

At 20 mph uphill it feels like you're being shaken from side to side, and after only four months of use the brakes require an iron grip to stop.

Now I'm stuck with a $4900 piece of crap in my garage, because it won't start at all new battery or not.

Kymco to the rescue: "There's nothing we can do."

The fit and finish of the scooter is superb. The fun factor is also outstanding, especially in traffic. Low-end acceleration is excellent up to 30 mph. Acceleration trails off quickly above 30 mph. I have an 8 percent grade to negotiate on my commute that is 2 miles long. I can maintain 45mph on ... this hill at full throttle. I wouldn't feel comfortable attempting a freeway stretch greater than 2 miles. Pros: Acceleration, handling, fit and finish, Overall value. Cons: Top speed.

Great scoot, Very Agile Unbelievable powerful acceleration, Purchased this to save gas I drive it everywhere never use my car anymore. The head light system on this scoot works better then my Toyota head lights. i have had Honda's in the past fit and finish quality is the best I've seen on any scooter. ...
