not for everyone... but
By (I am an Owner) on Mar 30, 2009This bike is not for everyone. If you like gassing up a bike and riding, and then doing the same time after time, you'll need to stick with the Japanese bikes. I absolutely love this bike, but I like tinkering and wrenching. You will need to learn the ins & outs of this bike ASAP, it will save you ... money and guaranteed frustration. KtmTalk.com has helped me more than anything, good group of guys, just watch who you listen to! This bike requires gear/engine oil and filter changes about every 5 hours. If you follow mfr's recommendations thats about $38 per 5 hours of fun. How is this acceptable you ask? Because this bike will give you severe anal-pucker and then scare the crap out of you. It's a mean mean machine-just find one and ride it. If thats the kind of bike you want it's a good trade.
Important-
If buying an 08 450 exc, make absolutely SURE with your OWN eyes that it has an '09 cam installed. 08 cam is the main problem point on this bike. KTM paid for my swap (good luck with that, they are getting tired of giving cams away) '09 cam is only $198 at KTMcyclehutt.com. After the '09 cam install I fell in love with this bike, world of difference.
There are also other things this bike will need if purchased new.
A better timing chain tensioner, jetting kit and/or accelerator pump and/or adjustable leak jet.
There's always something to buy for a bike, but I list these because they are CRUCIAL to this bike.
