By (I am an Owner) on Jul 29, 2014I've been riding for 20yrs and never had anything under a 600. Well I'm hooked on the 250r. Picked one up this weekend with 95 miles on it. I am having a blast breaking it in.

By (I am an Owner) on Aug 13, 2010Hey, I would HIGHLY suggest this bike for a newbie. Though if you haven't gotten your M class DL yet I'd suggest taking it with a scooter.
This bike is great for starters because it's not something your gonna pop a wheely on, that's not an insult to it's speed or anything.
It's high ... seating position gives great comfort, and I personally get over 200m on 1 tank of gas (between 3.5-3.8gal {keeping in mind I'm not going to run it till it's bone dry}).
As for the upkeep, you might just want to take it into the dealer after the recommended miles (500, 1500, etc..).

The Apt R machine for Indian Road
By (I am an Enthusiast) on Mar 15, 2010I wanted to buy or import a R6. Was fully involved in the process and i learnt many important aspects of an R machine.
The big bikes demand a different fuel which is 50% more expensiv and avearges 12 to 15 kmpl.
The average price of a R6 or an equivalent is 7000 to 8000 ... usd, which is sold by companie at 20000 to 25000 USD.
Ninja 250 R which is 4300 USD is being sold in India for 5700 USD. Considering the fact we do not have free and wide roads in India, Ninja is better bet than any of the bigger machine. I was riding a R1, for a few days, it was exciting, but difficult and dangerous given the above conditions. R 250 is a good and a right choice for Indian Condition.

Gret starter bike!
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 11, 2009I purchase my 250 earlier this year and have loved it ever since. I have over 3k mile on her (1k of those miles was a road trip) and the only issues I've come across is that the some bolts loosen up and rattle after about 800 miles and the bike chugs at near to full throttle due to it being to rich ... for the altitude, it is carburated. The bike handles well and is a fantastic confidence builder for those just starting out, it handles great and is easy to flick around. However, after a while you will crave more power. By then though, you should be more than able to step up to a bigger bike.

Best Bike Ever!!
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 10, 2009I love my new 2009 Ninja. I got the special edition green for the same price as the regular color bikes. Very comfortable for a lady rider at 5"1" 115lbs. I had the bike lowered an inch and its just perfect, not to low to hit speed bumps. I have to say the break in time is killing me as I just want ... to jump on the freeway and let her go.
This bike is very forgiving for a first time rider. You hardly need to pull the clutch to shift gears. The only thing I'm having a small problem with is first gear. At a stop light I sit in neutral but when its time to start going its a little hard to get into first. I was told the bike just needs to break in and shifting should be smooth.
This bike get my vote for the female riders out there who want something more than a Honda Rebel...

Performance and Style = Affordability?
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 07, 2009For anyone who has ever ridden a sport style Motorcycle a few key things tend to stand out. How you sit, Feeling the G's leaning into every turn and the pure acceleration and speed they can offer. While these factors and others contribute to how an individual feels about what type of bike is right ... for them most people tend to either love them or hate them. Cruisers offer the comfortable ride with tremendous power while sacrificing the speed, acceleration and need to lean however, going on a long trip most riders, including many sport and supersport riders, would agree a cruiser is the way to go. Thankfully Kawasaki has introduced their brand new Kawasaki Ninja 250r. This little sport offers a compact, affordable and sleek looking alternative to those expensive cruisers and supersports dominating the market today. The Ninja 250r was introduced in 2008 a new model from the perviously unchanged 20 year running model of the Ninja 250. Changes for 2008-2009 are clear to anyone who even remotely knows the history of the Ninja 250. The bike is 70 percent different than the previous model. The engine has been changed slightyly and is both a high-reving beauty and a gas-sipping wonder getting from 55 to 75 mpg. With a DOHC, 2-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid cooled engine the Ninja 250 has all the power a begining rider would need. Carbuereted using Keihin CVK30 x 2 keeping insurance cost even lower is also a plus. At $3999 msrp this little Ninja is primarily geared more towards people just breaking into the riding family there is still plenty a seasoned vetren will find to enjoy with 36 ponies at 11000 rpms and 18 lbs of torque it delivers enough power to make any ride fun and exciting. Side by side an average person probably couldn't tell the difference between the Ninja 250 and it's supersport brethren as the body has been completely redone to accomedate the ever changing market and demand for more aggresive styling. (About time Kawi!) With full fairing engine coverings and the supersport style front end and new 17" rims this little Kawi was built to turn heads. With new emission laws forcing developers to cut power for the sake of emissions the 250 is a quit little ride and at low rpms isnt going to rattle any windshields however, at higher rpms this whip makes some serious noise. handeling is another shining point as cutting corners and riding the twisties is as easy and exhilarating as anyone could hope. and at less than 400 lbs dry the 250 remains as nimble at low speeds as it does ripping the throttle wide open. The lack of a slipper clutch means that shifting is slightly more demanding however, it never caused problems even when pushing the limits. While not likely to win many races on the track the 250 is a heart pounding expirience that needs to be felt to understand. The real beauty of this machine is the combination of comfort and style with performance. Its more upright seating postion and raised handlebars are almost as close to a sport touring rig as a sport posture. However, with the seat maybe not being as comfortable as some other sport bikes it could be considered a stalemate. Long trips tend to be far more tolerable than that of its bigger siblings. Sitting only 30in off the ground women and other shorter ridiers recieve yet another bonus as being able to plant your foot firmly on the ground is a major confidence booster for new and seasoned riders alike. Exclusive is also the fuel gauge brand new to the 2008-09 ninja is a nice treat. The lack of a temperature gauge has some enthusiests raving. All in all the @008-2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250r is a begginer bike through and through sill managing to harbour something for everyone. its light weight and nimble handiling coupled with the sexy new agressive sport styling and affordable price may just make this the best bang for your buck for anyone looking to ride.

NOT A REGULAR 250
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 01, 2009Took the MSF course in April 09.. had my license in hand by May. Read all the reviews, and everything pointed to the Ninja 205R as the best motorcycle for the $$$. I could have spent the same amount on a used 600cc.. but decided to go with a brand new 2009 black ninja 250r. I was initially afraid ... the the 250 would be underpowered and sluggish.... especially after hearing it from my girlfriend who use to ride a Rebel 250. Have to say I don't regret the decision at all. This bike is not a regular 250.
I'm 6' 5" about 190 (a bit cramped on the bike -- )and while you have to make quick and precise shifting to get the bike really going, when you get the hang of it you can keep up with or pass pretty much every car on the road (which comes in handy when dealing with traffic)... If you're looking for a bike that will launch off the starting line, this bike doesn't have that kind of power.. nor does the exhaust sound all that impressive (that's what aftermarket exhausts are for i guess) but if you're looking for something that is fast enough and fun.. I have to say this bike is perfect. Ride it every chance I get... while it's not the Porche of motorcycles... it isn't bad for under $4k.
Positives:
1. Super easy and responsive handling
2. $3700 brand new
3. $100 per year for basic CA insurance coverage
4. Fast enough for regular riding
Negatives
1. Need to shift on que, or esle the minivan next to you will pass you
2. Bike is a little too small for me (6ft+)
3. I don't think it's the safest freeway bike.. just doesn't have the power after 70mph to do any safe passing

I'm in love with a ninja!
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 14, 2009I have ridden other 250s and even 650's, and sure the 250 is no super sport.
But the feel of the light and solid chassis is what really makes this bike great. The handling of the 250 is superior to it's larger cousins in almost every way. Take the Ninja 250 to a twisty track and it ... will give any 600 a run for its money, I guarantee it.
The design is solid and the bike fits like a glove. Kawasaki truly is the leader in quality and reliability. This bike is one of, if not the best, beginner bike ever built.
Don't underestimate this little ninja, it is more agile than you would think. The 250 is a class leader in power and is comparable to many 500s. The DOHC parallel twin engine pumps out enough ponies to keep you entertained for a long time to come.

Lovin' it!
By (I am an Owner) on Jun 25, 2009Checked a local bike store. I asked the owner, "I thought you had Ninja 250's in stock. Where are they?" He was like "you just walked past them." I was like no way, these are the 250's?! So far, I love it. Its my first bike and have been impressed. I'm 6'3", 190 pounds and I fit nicely. Great ... acceleration, great cornering and just plain fun to drive. I know its only a 250cc bike, but it still turns heads at the stop lights!

1st Bike Suggestions
By (I am an Enthusiast) on Jun 18, 2009I'm looking to buy my very first Motorcycle. The Ninja's have ALWAYS been my eye candy. Yet, since I'm no where near an experieced rider I wanted to see what other rides thought of this bike's usage for first virgin rides. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Good little bike
By (I am an Owner) on Jun 01, 2009I have to admit, this is a good little bike for a guy like me (5' 5", 130 lb); although I'm on my tip toes. Somehow I prefer this over my CBR1K, the weight difference is noticable ( so is the power difference). I like the style of this over the 2005, which I was planning on getting instead.
...
Pros:
-Lightweight
-Nice style
Cons:
-Lacks power
I would recommend this bike for the "True" beginner. It's small and very nimble, and with the lack of power; it's not too powerful or too slow for the rider.
(Oh, yeah; it anyone is wondering why I prefer this over my CBR1K...GAS PRICES; this one gets me about close to 65 MPG and my CBR1K gets me about 40 with all the mods on it...)

Sweet Suprise After Leaving Motorcycles
By (I am an Owner) on May 01, 200915 Years ago I stopped riding motorcycles. I have Owned 5 street and 4 dirt bikes. Today I bought my first "new" bike ever. Deciding to go with a "Starter Bike" since I haven't rode a motorcycle in years I picked the '09 Ninja because of reviews and projected resale value when compared to similar ... priced cruisers.
I was taken with the looks when I saw it. (pictures don't do it justice at all.) mine was all black. My son said it looked the coolest, (an he knows cool!)
After 2 laps around the parking lot I was ready to go. I was suprised the power and acceleration from the 250cc engine it felt like my old honda CT500 without the vibration. Driving was smooth, quiet and the control was very natural.
I paid over MSRP ($4600) but not at all upset. This bike was a bargin at twice the price. There were a few Dealer Extras to justify the price, Drop Bars and Riding Gear to meet local riding codes.

unlike the "old" Ninja 250
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 19, 2009I had a 2007 Ninja 250 and it was a good ride. Just purchased a 2009 ninja 250 and I can say they are world's apart. The difference is looks is obvious, but riding position, transmission, breaks, mid-range power and feel of the bike is significantly different.
Kawasaki has taken a good bike ... and made it great!
