Beast of the road
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 16, 2008Going from a sport bike to a Vulcan 2000 was a lengthy transition. Once used to not being able to snap through the twisties I learned this behemoth has a character all its own. Like the big buddy I used to hang with, laid back, calm and always cast a huge presence in crowds it was comforting to ... know when needed the power was always there whether for reassurance or just for fun I could always count on him having my back. This heavy cruiser I found amazingly easy to handle with its low center of gravity. The power of the 125ci engine makes quite a thrilling ride but if one isn't careful you'll chew up tires in a flash. Not having to downshift for extra power is odd to me but if you've got that much torque you don't have to. Longer rides (50-100 miles) however the seat gets a bit uncomfortable and the snaps on the saddle bags are low quality. I've put 12,000 miles on mine so far and am losing snaps on the front and rear of my bags. They're not falling off just shearing the metal. I've had it in the shop once for a short in the headlight bucket. I've added no lights to it so that one was on the factory. Had it fixed in an hour. Overall I'm satisfied with the bike. The engine and transmission are rock solid. The belt drive is looking worn due to my three miles of dirt road before hitting pavement but I expected that and if it's just little things failing on it then I can handle that. Finally and most importantly my wife likes it.
